The Trees
Today I am looking out at the world around me; it seems very calm, except for a breeze that I feel come across my face once in awhile. The breeze comes from the right of me so I turn to see if anything is blowing around; I see the breeze in the trees.
The trees are so bare, it seems as if they are dead. I know they are not, they are just dormant for the winter season. I know that there is life there in the tree. You can see ants hurrying along up and down the trunk to find food to store. The ants sure keep busy all year around. They are preparing for the winter season, so they will have food to eat and keep from from starving.
The branches come to life with the gentle breeze, blowing around. A Cardinal flies down on a branch; it is a male, I can tell for it's color is all red. He sings a little then flies off. I hear in the distance the mate for she sings back a reply. The neighbors have bird-feeders in their tree branches that keep food for the birds. It gets quite crowded at times. They fight over the food sometimes, all for their own.
The squirrels run up and down, chasing each other on the trees; they go from one tree to the next. It is funny, I laugh a little at the sigh and one of the squirrels almost missed the branch. It is so neat to watch the squirrel with a nut; it holds it in it's paws so carefully, nibbling away at it. The squirrel runs off, it went looking for more nuts. I do believe that they are taking the nuts to a hidden place, preparing for the cold winter although it is already December. I believe they are still finding food to hide.
The Stream
The stream that I came to just now, it is flowing smoothly. I have seen it rough and overflowing from the rains that came for days. The stream is lovely, curving around the huge rocks; it makes ripples of white flow gently. The sound is peaceful and calming. The ducks come sometimes and swim around, ducking their heads; it is funny to see their feet stick up and their heads disappear. They quack at each other if they get too far apart; I guess one gets scared if they can at that; maybe they feel no fear, I don't know.
Once I saw fish swimming in the stream, they were so calm while floating under the water. They were spawning last spring, so many of them with the water splashing about; I was wondering what in the world was going on? My dad told me they were spawning. I hope to see it again next spring.
Oh look at the sight, it's a turtle climbing the back. It's a snapper dad said "Stay away from it". It's huge, oh no the neighbor's dog is coming; it sees the turtle and starts barking. The dog wants to play but soon gets tired of it and runs off. It is so exciting to watch!
The Winter
It's snowing outside today. I love the snow! It's just covering the grass, not very much snow but just enough to be beautiful. It hangs off the branches of the pine trees in a most spectacular way. The sun glistens off of the snow in a way that makes the snow almost seem magical.
The air is very crisp since it is winter. The cold air blows across my face and it also causes snow from off of the trees and rooftops to blow through the air like little fairies. I love the cold feeling of winter, it puts a smile on my face and has a tendency to make me hyper. I like the heat in summer also but there is nothing quite like winter with the cold air and the twinkling stars in the sky casting a bluish tint on the snow.
The Sun
Although it is still winter, the sun is shining today. The little bit of snow we did have has melted. That doesn't make me very happy! Oh well, I"m sure it'll snow again before winter is over. The sunshine is very pretty; it is shining through my window since I am sitting in my chair looking outside since it is cold today. The sun makes a reddish tint onto the branches of trees and the dirt under the grass and the shore bed of the creak behind our house.
The heat of the sun isn't as warm today as it would be in the summer or spring. Because it is winter, it just melts the snow and casts a warm feeling across a person's face. The sun sometimes puts a beautiful spark in a person's eyes, lighting up brown eyes and causing green eyes to shine like a jewel.
As I sit in my chair beside the window in my bedroom, the sun is starting to go down and it is getting darker outside. Sine it is winter, it gets dark a lot earlier than in the summer. The sun is pretty, casting a yellow color across the sky causing the sunset. A cloud has covered the sun for a little while, but it left quickly because it was a small off-white cloud. In just that little bit of time, the sun is almost completely gone down. It was interesting to watch!
